The Legend of Shennong Tasting Hundreds of Herbs

The Legend of Shennong Tasting Hundreds of Herbs

Throughout history Herbs have been used for their healing properties. One of the earliest recorded herbal usage dates back to 2800 B.C. in China. Chinese herbalist, Shénnóng, reportedly compiled some 52 recipes for various ailments. Herbs and herbal remedies from the ancient Egyptian papyri dates back some 1700 B.C., the Greek contribution and Hippocrates (468-377 B.C.), not to mention the great Indian contribution as well as Roman remedies and the Islamic influences of the Arab world,  the list goes on and on.

As  time passed, every civilization and culture has contributed to this ever-growing medical phenomenon. Not only that, but the scientists are constantly discovering new wonders of herbs.

Herbs are any plants, used for their healing properties, with active ingredients in food or drinks as a  flavoring enhancement or healing properties. Furthermore they can be used for perfumes, cosmetic, or cleansing agents.

NaturalOrganicHerbalRemedies.com main focus is based on the Holistic Approach. While it may seem that majority of  remedies are targeting just a particular ailment, that could not be further from the truth.

Our body is composed of complex chemical and biochemical reactions giving us life. Everything that we eat and drink, the air that we breathe, the way we think, what we do …  is integrated and influencing our physiological and psychological development. One can not  isolate just one ailment, or treat just one symptom, without considering the “whole” person.

Whether you live in China, India, Middle East, Europe, South America or North America; human issues are relatively the same. What is different is the unique ecosystem of each region. Each specific climate is favorable for native herbs and discovering their healing properties. This diversification has produced , and still producing wealth of information on using natural methods to heal. There are literally thousands, if not millions of remedies for various problems.

Unfortunately in recent decades pharmaceutical companies have swayed away from  Natural Organic Herbal Remedies. Majority of these companies have seen the golden goose in this field and chose to put huge corporate profits ahead of what should be their main goal  – to heal people. I am not saying that all pharmaceutical research is shady, but there is more than a fair share of questionable corporations just to make a profit.

Herbs

Herbs and herbal remedies are essentially being used in three categories:  healing, prevention and wellbeing.

Healing- For thousands of years herbs have demonstrated their ability to heal. As a matter of fact until just about fifty years ago nearly all the pharmaceutical manufacturing and their formulation have herbal origin. The “modern” chemical technology has been systematically replacing it. Today, thankfully, the popularity of herbalism is on the rise. More and more people are discovering that herbal care is comparatively inexpensive form of health care and more importantly the effectiveness of all natural products.

Prevention – Herbs and herbalism is an abundant and rich resource for anyone interested in prevention. The key is not so much in specific remedies but in understanding the role of herbal actions in maintaining health and correct physiological activity.

Wellbeing – You have probably heard the old saying that “we are what we eat”. But we are also what we breathe, what we think, what we say, what we see. Wellbeing majors on therapeutic approaches that are aimed at activating our own ability for self-healing. We can seek help from the “experts” but essentially the responsibility for healing and health lies upon us. Using herbs is an ideal way to co-operate with our own innate power.

Depending on the type of herb and the desired effect , there are several ways that herbs can be consumed. The obvious ones are to eat them fresh, in salads or cooking. The other techniques such as infusion, decoction, tinctures, ointments, oils will be discussed in greater detail.
