Homeopathy
Basic Homeopathic principle is to use ones own body to combat various ailments. To activate our innate defense mechanism, small amount of diluted natural remedies are administered. Once this small dosage is taken the body will start the facilitated healing capable of fighting the particular disease.
Homeopathy comes from Greek, homeo – meaning “similar” and pathos – meaning “suffering”. It is a term coined by Samuel Hahnemann in 1796.
The origins of Homeopathy dates back to Greek physician Hippocrates in the 5th century B.C. He introduced the concept of “like can cure like”. His belief that the patients own powers of healing are the key to recovery.
The foundation of modern Homeopathy is credited to Samuel Christian Hahnemann (1755 – 1843). He was a doctor and chemist born in Dresden Germany. He devised homeopathy, a new system of medicine, which literally means “treatment of the same”. It is based on the key principle that a drug taken in small amounts will cure the same symptoms it causes in large amounts.
During his era, Hahnemann was quite disturbed of the devastation that malaria was causing on his people. Experiment after experiment led him to number of discoveries that lay the Homeopathy foundation and techniques that were relatively unchanged to this date.
Quinine, a purified extract from the bark of cichona tree, produced similar symptoms as malaria. Some people at the time also reported that quinine was successful treatment for the disease. To get to the bottom of this, Hahnemann started taking quinine, recording results and effects. He noted similar symptoms as malaria even though he was not infected. The symptoms recurred every time he took a dose of quinine and lasted for several hours. He started administering the medicine to his patients producing satisfactory results. There were many variations under strict conditions which he carefully recorded.
After six years of research using many different substances for various ailments, Hahnemann accumulated great deal of information. From his carefull research he compiled the “drug picture” for number of remedies.
Some of the remedies were quite potent and even in diluted state were causing discomfort to patients. Not only the discomfort but number of patients reported that the conditions got lot worse before they healed.

Samuel Christian Hahnemann (1755-1843)
To lessen the discomfort, Hahnemann developed a two-step dilution process in attempt to lower the side effects. To his surprise not only did the diluted medicines stop to produce such strong aggravations, but they also healed faster and more effectively than the concentrated solutions.
Throughout his work, he started using weaker solutions. which paradoxically became increasingly potent.
During his life, Hahnemann proved the effectiveness of some 100 homeopathic remedies. His main belief was that only one dose of remedy should be taken, for the shortest period in order to stimulate the body’s innate healing power.
